There are two types of vented hot water storage systems - directly-heated and indirectly-heated. Indirectly-heated systems are designed to be run in conjunction with an external heat source like a central heating boiler, while directly-heated systems heat the water using immersions.

If you install an unvented boiler, you will need to inform your local authority. Your system will also require annual maintenance to make sure the equipment is working safety and efficiently.
